About This Course

The DCO Capacity Building Course on Ethical AI is a web-based training program designed to enhance learners’ understanding of the rapidly evolving global AI governance landscape, with a strong emphasis on the intersection between AI and human rights. Targeted at a broad international audience, the program aims to equip learners with the skills to identify and mitigate ethical risks in AI systems, build capacity for implementing responsible AI governance within organizations, apply the DCO Principles for Ethical AI to real-world AI challenges, and gain familiarity with the DCO AI Ethics Evaluator—a tool developed to support the assessment of ethical risks in AI systems.The course is organized into four structured modules: 

• Module 1: Provides an overview of the emerging technology landscape, global AI governance trends, and offers comparative insights into how different regions are shaping AI regulation. 

• Module 2: Explores the relationship between AI and human rights, introducing a rights-based framework to guide ethical AI governance. 

• Module 3: Focuses on practical strategies for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks throughout the AI lifecycle, drawing on global best practices and real-world examples. 

• Module 4: Introduces the DCO AI Ethics Evaluator—a digital policy tool designed to help individuals and organizations systematically assess and address ethical considerations in their AI systems. 

Each module includes an assessment to reinforce learning and encourage critical thinking. Additionally, to enhance engagement and practical understanding, the modules offer visually rich content and real-world case studies. The DCO Capacity Building Course on Ethical AI reflects the DCO’s commitment to advancing ethical AI practices globally by strengthening institutional capacities and fostering a shared understanding of responsible AI governance.
